The Village of Salmo is pleased to have been formally recognized as an Age-Friendly Community by the BC Minister of Health Adrian Dix and Executive Director of the BC Healthy Communities Society Jodi Mucha. This provincial recognition includes a framed poster to hang in the Village office and a $1,000 grant.

The City of Castlegar will be performing water system maintenance work. Due to this maintenance work, the City of Castlegar’s main water supply will be shut down for one night starting at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 2,  until 6 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 3. This planned maintenance work is taking place to ensure the reliability of the City’s water system.

Work is now underway on the BC SPCA’s new West Kootenay Community Animal Centre in Castlegar. The new 4,250-square-foot facility, to be located at 124 Heritage Way (west of the airport), is expected to open by June 2018.

The Lower Mainland District RCMP are reminding the public that virtual kidnapping incidents are continuing in light of three recent incidents.

Back in July of 2017, RCMP issued a news release warning the public about an extortion scheme that tricks victims into believing their loved ones have been kidnapped.

The British Columbia government is providing $100,000 so the Town of Golden can move forward with a new access option after the lower canyon of the Kicking Horse River was closed to the whitewater-rafting industry, Doug Donaldson, Minister of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development, announced today.
