Peter Wulowka - City council

I was born in Victoria in 1970, and moved to Castlegar in the summer of 1980. I attended Stanley Humphries Secondary school "class of 1988" then went to Okanagan college in 1989 for a four- year apprenticeship in carpentry.

I have worked on large industrial projects in the area such as the Celgar pulpmill expansion in 1990, Castlegar-Robson bridge in 1994 and the Arrow Lakes generating station in 1999, and in between have been on many residential and commercial projects. I currently own and operate my own business "Raccoon Specialized Carpentry", through which  I provide a blend of unique and custom carpentry services. My activities include exploring the Arrow lakes, hiking Castlegar's surrounding mountains, gardening, woodworking and basically anything that gets me outdoors. I was a member of an anti-uranium mining coalition and have done some public fundraising events by donating items that I have built, and I volunteered with Communities in Bloom. I have an older brother Tim and mother Jean that both currently live in Castlegar.

Acknowledging the fact that I have no political experience, if elected, it would be a "yes sir, no sir" role for me in the beginning and I would respect and follow the lead of the veteran staff. As time goes on and more and more issues are dealt with through council, my education of the major issues in Castlegar will grow. I will make it my priority to be brought up to speed with the airport properties, water meters, senior and affordable housing, greater and improved recreational facilities, the official community plan. This is a lot of reading and comprehending for a carpenter and small business owner to swallow all at once. My focus right now is to let you know who I am and what I can contribute to our community. I've lived in Castlegar 31 years and I plan on staying here the rest of my life. I can guarantee you this, that I will dedicate myself to the pressing issues in Castlegar and will not make any decisions until I am educated and understand them thoroughly.

What I am experienced with is what I do for a living and what is under my feet wherever I may roam in our beautiful city. This is why I want to make it my business to help ensure people that pound nails, drive trucks, serve drinks, cut hair, clean houses or punch a clock in general that they will be able to do so in Castlegar as long as they wish. They won't be forced to leave town because of the lack of internal job security or constant out-of-area contracting, removing jobs from a well-qualified workforce and a wide variety of established businesses right on our doorstep. I know if we work together we can keep it in town.

My passion is for our beautiful surroundings and inner city treasures such as organizations that promote the majestic scenery and health and well-being of Castlegar. Everything from the garden tour to minor soccer, the people that are involved and participate in these activities, to me, means "community". I would love to bring a bold new view to this and I will with your suggestions and support. Please elect Peter Wulowka for council.
