City Police shut down drug trafficking house in Nelson

Nelson Police executed a search warrant on a drug trafficking house on Carbonate Street Thursday (March 28), shutting down the operation in fast order.

The warrant was served following a long, involved investigation into drugs being dealt from the residence in the 900 block of Carbonate Street.

Arrested and charged with drug trafficking and possession charges along with weapons related charges is 61-year-old Francis Dukart.

Dukart remains is custody with an expected court date Tuesday (April 2).

On March 28 at 10:08 a.m., Castlegar fire department received a call reporting a garage fire in the 300 Block of 7 Avenue in Castlegar.
Castlegar Fire Department and Police responded to the scene. A detached garage was fully engulfed in flames. The owner was located and did not receive any injuries. No one was inside the garage.

It's been almost a week and still police have nothing new to report after a man's body was found near the mouth of Cottonwood Creek in Nelson.

The man's body was found lying supine in the shallow waters of Cottonwood Creek Saturday (March 23) in the morning by a passing worker.

Nelson Police immediately cordoned off the area to begin the investigation into the suspicious death.

Castlegar RCMP and Fire Dept have commenced investigation into two suspicious fires which occurred Monday night in the Sunflower City.

The fires were called in at 2230 and 2255 hours to Castlegar RCMP and Castlegar Fire Dept.

The first fire reported involved a parked vehicle found engulfed in flames in the parking lot of the Kinnaird Community Church in the 1200 block of 26th Street.

Creston RCMP got their men, and stopped a home invasion in progress Wednesday.

The home, resulting in the arrest of two men, is believed to be drug related.

The incident started Wednesday (March 20) around 8 pm. local time when RCMP responded a 911 call of a home invasion in progress at a home in the 600 block of 7th Avenue South.

The suspects had fled, prior to police arrival and on attendance investigators noted that the suspects had discharged a firearm at the door in their attempts failed attempts to gain entry.

Some of the property stolen from the recent break-and-enters in the Johnson’s Landing area has now been recovered. Kaslo RCMP are crediting a sharp-eyed local citizen with pointing them in the right direction.

Kaslo Detachment Commander Cpl Shaun Begg says that a local resident, travelling near Fussey’s Corner, about 100 meters east of Highway 31, noticed a Toro lawn tractor, a snow plow, Table saw, various other hand tools and other equipment related to the recent break and enters, piled neatly at the side of the roadway.

Police are hoping there are a few smarter drivers out there after their month long campaign to nab distracted drivers and unbelted auto travelers.

“In the month of February, the West Kootenay IRSU & Traffic Services issued 55 violations for distracted driving and 177 seat belt violations throughout the West Kootenay area,” said Sgt. Derrick Donovan of the West Kootenay Traffic Unit.
