Outdoor recreation in the Golden area is getting a boost with the construction of a new trail up Golden Hill.

Families will soon be able to cycle and walk along a new paved two-metre-wide pathway on the hill that will run parallel to the Trans-Canada Highway for just over one kilometre.

With forecasted wind gusts expected this week, the Southeast Fire Centre is expecting smoke to increase on the four-hectare Perry Creek fire.

Squatters are believed to be the blame of a small fire that occurred in the early afternoon of Friday, August 19 west of Nelson near the CPR tracks.

The fire was caused as a result of an abandoned campfire near a squatter’s camp.

Mining is returning to the Princeton region as the Copper Mountain Mine celebrated its grand opening Friday. The mine brings jobs to the area and benefits the entire province.

Having started production in June 2011, Copper Mountain is the third-largest copper mine in Canada and the first major-metals mine to open in British Columbia since 1998.
