An alleged mother/son break-and-enter team The Source told you about just before the New Year has apparently struck again, perhaps calling into question the merit of low bail bonds.

According to RCMP Sgt. Darryl Little, 20-year-old Collin Ray McDonald and his 38-year-old mother were both charged for a break-and-enter on Cote Road in Slocan Valley Dec. 29, 2010.   The mother, Charlotte Bidlock, was released on conditions (that she appear in court in April 2011 and not attend the Cote Road  address) that morning, while McDonald was held in custody until his first court appearance on Dec. 30.   Despite the objections of Crown Counsel, McDonald was released on a $100 bail   “At the time of his arrest there were 11 outstanding arrest warrants in Alberta, however, the Alberta Attorney’s office would not extend the radius of the warrants and allow him to be returned to their jurisdiction,” Little explained. “Both accused quickly moved from the area, resulting warrants being issued for their arrest. Both his mother and McDonald are known to the police and had recently moved to the Slocan Valley from the Okanagan.”   The two once again ran afoul of the law on the evening of Jan. 26 of this year, when, “three people are alleged to have been involved in a home invasion in Ashmont, Alta., near St Paul,” Little said.    “Two males wearing dark clothing and balaclavas entered a residence and held the occupants at gun point. They tied up the victims and stole a significant amount of cigarettes, tobacco products plus Canadian, American and Korean currency.   “The items were taken from the victim’s residence and convenience store, which adjoined the house and was owned by the victims.   “A third suspect waited in a nearby car,” Little added. “Following a comprehensive investigation, police executed a search warrant on a motel room in St Paul and recovered a significant amount of cigarettes, tobacco products and currency as reported by the victims.   “As a result … McDonald, Bidlock and Joseph Gerald Roy, 42, have been charged with robbery using a firearm, forcible confinement, disguise with intent, breaking and entering, assault with a weapon, uttering threats and possession of stolen property.”   The Source has been unable to confirm rumours that Roy is stepfather to McDonald and husband to Bidlock.   “All have been held in custody pending further court appearances,” Little concluded. “No one was physically injured during the home invasion, however, the two victims were severely traumatized by the events.”
