Assault against an elderly woman in downtown Trail

A Trail woman is facing charges after allegedly assaulting an elderly woman in Trail, according to RCMP Sgt. Mike Wicentowich.

“On Friday, May 6, at 5:57 p.m. Trail and Greater District RCMP responded to a 23-year-old Trail woman who allegedly assaulted a 78-year-old Trail woman in the 800 block of Helena Street, Trail.”

Wicentowich said the dispute allegedly arose after the 78-year-old woman asked the 23-year-old woman to move as she was blocking a staircase located in the area.

“The younger woman struck then pushed down the elderly woman before fleeing the scene. Emergency Health Services transported the elderly victim was transported to the Trail hospital to received medical treatment for her injuries.”

Trail RCMP located and arrested the 23-year-old woman for Assault contrary to Section 266 of the Criminal Code. She will make her first appearance on July 21, 2022, in Provincial Court, in Rossland.

“I understand the concerns that this type of crime causes in the community,” Wicentowich said. “We will be continuing to investigate the matter and monitoring the accused as she awaits her upcoming court date.”
