Castlegar and District Chamber of Commerce executive director Pam McLeod is not unaware of the irony of winning Kootenay Business Magazine’s ‘Influential Women in Business Award’ barely a month before, herself, hosting the Chamber Business Excellence Awards – but she’s good with the irony, in this case.

McLeod was presented with the award at the Kootenay I-Tech luncheon in Nelson May 23, and said she was surprised by the honour.

“I didn’t even realize I’d been nominated,” she said. “I have to acknowledge the people around me. I could never have achieved anything like this without all the day-to-day collaboration with my board of directors, staff, networks and resources.

“It made me feel proud of my position in the community and made me stop to realize how important the people around me are in how I work.”

And work she will, preparing to stage this year’s Chamber Business Excellence Awards slated for June 29.

“We had an outstanding number od nomation submissions this year,” she said, explaining those submissions have now gone to a seven-member panel of community champions who are not stakeholders in the awards themselves.

The panel will rank each of the submissions based on the award criteria (there are eight award categories, in all), and determine, based on that ranking, between three and five nominees per category.

The nominees will then be notified via formal letter and a personal phone call from a chamber director.

Winners will be announced at a gala dinner on June 29 at the Fireside Inn.

“There will be a dinner, a couple of brief presentations, and the awards,” said McLeod. It’s a great opportunity for nominees to bring their staff members – sharing that is a real morale booster.”

Tickets are $45 each or $350 for a table of eight. For more information, contact McLeod at 250-365-6313.
