Lack of snow may have prevented last year’s City of Castlegar toboggan party from taking place …but it doesn’t appear to be an issue this year.

Assuming the weather holds, the toboggan party will be on Feb. 12 at Cone Hill, and it’s an event no one should miss – as many as a 1,000 people attended in 2009.  “There’ll be free hot dogs and hot chocolate, burning barrels to help you keep warm, and an amazing firework finale,” said Deb McIntosh, chair of the city’s Community Health and Wellness committee. “And, of course, the main attraction – tobogganing.”  Floodlights illuminate the park after dark, so it’s an ambience-rich evening, and terrific fun for all ages.  Parking is extremely limited at Cone Hill, so there will be free transportation to and from the Complex, generously donated by Castlegar’s Mountain Transport Institute. The evening begins at 5:30 p.m., with the fireworks  ending it all with a bang at 7:30 p.m.  Mayor Lawrence Chernoff said this year’s fireworks display will be more than twice what was offered in ’09, thanks to the generous support of corporate sponsors Trowelex, Andrew Sheret and Splashes, and Krueckl Financial Services.  “No matter how cold it is outside, this is always just a warm, fuzzy event,” Chernoff said.
