The City of Trail has received $50,000 in funding from the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) through the Federation of Canadian Municipalities’ Municipal Asset Management Program (MAMP).

The funding will go towards the city’s Asset Management Strategy, a program used to establish a high-level, long term approach to managing assets associated with water and wastewater systems, drainage and flood protection systems, civic facilities, parks, and mobile equipment.

“We are very pleased to receive this financial support to complete the development of our Asset Management Strategy project for Trail,” said Mayor Mike Martin. “It’s essential that we’re diligent with this project as it will ensure the delivery of services to meet the current and future needs of the community in the most effective and efficient manner.”

The FCM funding supports the development of an integrated asset management strategy that is applicable across all departments of the city in order to optimize asset management, capital planning and decision-making.

City staff has been working closely with Kerr Wood Leidal (KWL) to advise the City at key stages of the project. KWL is a consulting engineering firm that specializes in designing and implementing asset management programs for small and medium-sized communities.

“In summary, our Asset Management Strategy project allows us to be proactive rather than reactive,” said Martin. “Today’s needs of our community should not compromise the needs of our future generations.”

About the Municipal Asset Management Program (MAMP) 159 initiatives have been approved for funding through three infrastructure programs funded by the Government of Canada and delivered by the Federation of Canadian Municipalities: the Municipal Asset Management Program (MAMP), the Municipalities for Climate Innovation Program (MCIP) and the Green Municipal Fund (GMF). Funding for these new initiatives amounts to $12,139,728.
