The Castlegar Complex’s second annual Cultural A-Fair last Saturday was a massive hit, with more than 500 people attending the celebration of local clubs and organizations.

Organizer Audrey Maxwell Polovnikoff, recreational and cultural programmer at the Complex, said the free event ran from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and was hugely well-received.

“It’s an opportunity for organizations to educate our community on the wealth of recreational, cultural and artistic offerings in our city,” she said.

He said the 26 participating organizations, ranging from the Sons of Norway to the West Kootenay Camera Club, not to mention the Castlegar Arts Council and more, were given the opportunity to showcase themselves and network with each other.

“Feedback from exhibitors and attendees was very positive,” she said, adding the new group of Katimavik volunteers in Castlegar were on hand to help out for the event.

“We had free entertainment throughout the day,” she said. “Belly dancers, choirs, jazz dancers, folk singers, highland dancers …. it really was something.”

That being said, if you missed this year’s offering, it’s a safe bet next spring will see the third annual Cultural A-Fair, given the fair’s popularity.
