Two people are in police custody after a rash of crimes in Trail and Kamloops, according to Trail top cop Sgt. Darren Oelke.

“In the early morning hours of Jan. 23, the Trail RCMP were called to two commercial break-and-enters in the city within an hour of each other. Ackland Grainger and Gerick’s Cycle both had their front doors smashed and cash and property stolen. Video surveillance captured images of the male suspect and a vehicle,” Oelke said.

“On Jan. 24, the stolen Ford F350 used by the suspect was located in West Trail. Investigation soon led police to a residence on Wilmes Lane, where a 37-year-old female was taken into custody. A search warrant was executed at the residence and evidence from both of the break-and-enters was seized, along with items stolen from a break in at Sound West in December 2014. Items recovered from the stolen truck also linked the suspect to a theft of tools from a City of Trail work truck.”

Oelke said police believe the woman recently moved to Trail from the lower mainland with her significant other.

“The female was released with a pending court date of April 2 in Rossland,” he added, then went on to explain that the male alleged to have participated in the crimes has also been arrested.

“In the early morning hours of Jan. 27, Kamloops RCMP arrested the male sought in the local break-and-enters after he stole a ‘bait’ vehicle in Kamloops. Kamloops Detachment is investigating a rash of crimes committed overnight,” Oelke said. “The male will be held in custody and will be facing numerous charges related to his crime spree in Trail.”
