Showing up early for the holidays on Dec. 7, Cairo Time is the next film in the Kootenay Gallery Monday Night at the Movies series.

Awarded Best Canadian Feature at the 2009 Toronto International Film Festival, Cairo Time stars indie film queen Patricia Clarkson as a journalist who travels to Egypt to see the pyramids with her husband. Detained by his work, he asks his former colleague, played by Alexander Siddig, to show his wife the sites of Cairo. Both characters are caught off-guard by a sweet, unexpected romance that develops between them. Says Clarkson of her character, Juliette, “This isn’t a movie about a woman in an unhappy marriage. This is a movie about a woman at a great point of internal transition in her life. And thanks to serendipity, this exquisite man steps into her existence at just that moment.”

Gorgeously filmed, Cairo Time will entrance the viewer; to see a clip visit: www.cairotime.ca/html/trailer/

CAIRO TIME screens on Dec. 7 at Kootenay Centre Cinema in Castlegar.

Tickets are $9 and are available at Kootenay Gallery, Castlegar Public Library and the cinema door.

Monday Night at the Movies and Kootenay Gallery gratefully acknowledge Columbia Basin Trust for their support of the 2009/2010 film series.
