It’s that time of year again, when Castlegar gears up for spring and summer with the chamber of commerce’s 11th annual Home and Lifestyles Expo.

Chamber executive director Pam McLeod said this year’s offering promises to be better than ever, with 69 vendors and an exciting range of booths, services and products.  “We had about 2,300 people last year, but that was because we held it a month later than usual,” she said, explaining the gorgeous sunny weather actually worked against the event, as people headed to gardens, lakes, parks, and just generally chose to enjoy the balmy day. “This year, we’re hoping to at least break that 3,000 mark.  “We’ve sold out the show – we actually had to manipulate the floor plan to allow for more vendors,” she said. “Everything from Bath Fitters to greenhouse products to jewelry … the ShamWow guys will be back with a new product, and they’re so entertaining.”  The event, to be held in the Selkirk College gymnasium this Friday, Saturday and Sunday, offers some terrific buys, and even chances to win exciting prizes.  “ICF Building Products will be giving away a trip for two to Vegas in their booth, and Kootenay Savings has come forward with $500 in ‘expo reward dollars’ that lucky the winner can spend with the expo vendor of their choice,” she said. Another huge draw will likely be the new gaming centre’s booth, where they’ll be offering information about what services they’ll be providing, as well as accepting applications for employment when they open this spring.  Hospice Society will have the barbecue going outside, and the college’s Ripple Mountain Café will be open, so you can bring the family and make a day of it, McLeod said.  The event will run Friday from 5 to 8 p.m, Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.  The entrance fee is $4 for adults, $3 for seniors and kids 10 and under get in free if accompanied by an adult.  “Lastly, I’d like to offer a huge thanks to our sponsors: the Columbia Basin Trust, Heritage Credit Union, Zellstoff Celgar and the Columbia Power Corporation.” For more information, contact the chamber at 250-365-6313.
