City of Castlegar’s Mayor and Council invite everyone in the community to celebrate Canada Day with an eye to the sky to watch an amazing firework display that with happen on Thursday, July 1 at dusk, rain or shine

The show is presented by the Castlegar Festival Society which normally provides fireworks as part of annual Sunfest celebrations.

“We really wanted to do something special this year that fit within the COVID-19 restrictions so we are thrilled to bring never before seen fireworks to the community,” says Councillor Sue Heaton-Sherstobitoff, Chair of the Cultural and Civic Pride Committee. “Launching the show from Selkirk College allows everyone in and around Castlegar to see the fireworks which will shoot higher and brighter into the night sky ensuring visibility from back patios and front steps.”

The fireworks are supported by Waste Management and funded in part with a grant from the Department of Canadian Heritage which plays a vital role in the cultural, civic, and economic life of Canadians.

There will not be any formal gathering or viewing area at Selkirk College and the road will be blocked to local and emergency traffic only. All provincial health orders and guidance are still in effect and MUST be followed.

The City of Castlegar is a service centre in the West Kootenay. The diversified and growing economy is focused on the forestry, energy and mining sectors in the valley, and commercial services in the City. Quality of life features backcountry adventure and an increasingly dynamic urban culture, including the Millennium Park & Ponds and Sculpture Walk.
