Fire outside Winlaw draws air tankers from West Kootenay Regional Airport
A wildfire roughly four-and-a-half kilometres west of Winlaw on Perry Ridge is mobilizing fire planes out of the West Kootenay Regional Airport in Castlegar, according to a Southeast Fire Centre spokesman.
“There are no roads up there, so we’re working it with the air tankers and hoping to get some crews up there in the morning,” said fire information officer Jordan Turner, adding the fire is about three-and-a-half hectares in size.
“Because of the remoteness of the area, (the cause) appears to be lightning,” he added.
He said the fire is not threatening any people or structures at this time.
