For the second year in a row, the Stanley Humphries Grad class is taking over the popular event Spooks on Zukes this Thursday.

The annual Hallowe’en favourite had been around for roughly 15 years, but then was cancelled several years ago due to issues of vandalism and other concerns, according to Heritage Society manager Deb McIntosh.

“Then the Grad class took it over last year, and it was absolutely phenomenal,” McIntosh said. “They were gone by 10 p.m., and did such a good clean-up, you would never have known they were there at all.”
The Zuckerberg Island Heritage Park is an ideal venue for spooky celebrations, with its suspension bridge, historic Russian Orthodox Chapel House, winding paths and storied history.

Sidney Stratton, 17, is a member of the 2017 Grad class and is helping to organize the event.
“I went last year,” Stratton said. “Prepare to be scared – there’s this really big build-up, and it’s really dark and creepy.”

Entrance to this all-ages family event is by donation – either cash or a non-perishable item for the food bank – and organizers recommend that kids ages 11 or younger attend before 7:30 p.m.

“The first tour starts at 5:30 p.m., and the last one goes out around 9 p.m.,” Stratton said. “There will also be a concession tent with hot dogs, hot chocolate and baked goods, along with a raffle for really fabulous gift baskets.”

The event is also an excellent opportunity to support your local food bank and the Grad class of 2017.
