On Nov. 9 at 6:25 p.m. on duty Surrey RCMP plainclothes officers had stopped in the area of 71 Avenue and 135 Street in an unmarked police car when they were approached by a male who had unsavory plans for the car and its occupants.

Needing a quick ride, the suspect grabbed one of the undercover police officers from the driver’s seat and tried to pull him out of the vehicle in an attempt to steal the car. The officers identified themselves as police officers and arrested the would-be thief.

The male has been identified as 25-year-old Penticton resident, Kyle Blair Berg. Berg also had a warrant in Penticton for wearing a disguise with intent. Berg remains in police custody at this time and is facing possible new charges of Robbery and Breach of probation along with the warrant.

“This had the potential to be a frightening incident and we are thankful that our officers were in the right place at the right time to take this person into custody,” said Cpl. Scotty Schumann “The suspect got the ride he wanted, but probably not to the location he was hoping for.”
