Residents from Area I, Area J and Castlegar are invited to complete a survey to provide further information about potential enhancements to the Castlegar & District Community Complex (CDCC). Findings from this survey will be used by the Castlegar & District Recreation Commission to determine its approach to a potential referendum about CDCC enhancements.
“We have received valuable insight from people who have participated in the ‘Build Your Own Activity Hub’ consultations, but we still need further direction before moving on to the next phase,” said Lawrence Chernoff, Chair of the Recreation Commission.
“I urge all households to complete the survey. Your feedback will guide us in making the decision about whether or not we move forward with a referendum.”
Last summer, the Recreation Commission asked residents to complete a questionnaire about which package of potential enhancements to the CDCC they preferred: Option A or Option B. Option A includes necessary improvements to arena storage and change rooms; social hub-lobby and office expansion; fitness area expansion; and a new leisure pool. Option B includes all of Option A plus a second ice sheet at the complex, plus team rooms and a lobby extension.
While a single preferred option was not clearly identified through the findings, twenty-eight percent favoured Option A and thirty-nine percent preferred Option B. In this follow-up survey, which will be open from Dec. 5 to 22, 2017, residents will be asked whether or not they would support Option B if asked in a referendum.
The Recreation Commission is focusing on Option B because it received stronger support in the previous questionnaire.
All households in the service area will receive a mailed invitation to participate in the online survey this week. The invitation letter contains instructions for accessing the survey, along with a unique access code. This access code can only be used once, so residents are asked to finish the survey in one session.
The survey should take about five minutes to complete, and all responses will remain anonymous. The survey will be accessible through the CDCC enhancements website, http://myactivityhub.ca.
