Letter: Left at the voting alter by the Prime Minister

Letter: Left at the voting alter by the Prime Minister

To The Editor:

The Liberal Government under Justin Trudeau has chosen to abandon its commitment to reform our voting system. This is something that the Canadian voting public should not take laying down.

Our voting system stands at the core of our democratic process and represents our most fundamental democratic right. Our current "first past the post" voting system is outdated and does not reflect the wishes of the voting public.

Justin Trudeau promised that the last election would be the last to use this flawed system and now has withdrawn his commitment and hopes to use the same system to achieve another election victory.

This is a betrayal of the most serious order.  It is not an exaggeration to state that using "first past the post" voting is as bad as denying certain groups of people the right to vote altogether.

I call on the Canadian public to respond to this betrayal with outrage.
