To the editor:

I arrived home from work this evening to find a tiny sparrow sitting in my driveway…he fell out of his nest (which we couldn’t find).

We quickly picked him up and called “BEAKS” (Carol Pettigrew) in Blueberry, who agreed to care for the tiny bird. When we arrived at Carol’s, we were shocked to see how many birds she was caring for. Just today, she was given four birds to nurse back to health and she had many others, including a baby osprey and a baby hummingbird.

She indicated that the baby birds require 24-hour care and need to be fed every 10 to 15 minutes. She then began telling us that her funding was cut two months ago and she is working tirelessly to keep the birds fed and cared for.

She said that when she was funded, she was able to hire three students to help her, and now she is alone, exhausted, and desperate for some help. Please help to spread the word that our local BEAKS (Bird Emergency and Care Society) needs volunteers. Please consider helping this much-needed society…they are doing amazing work!

Respectfully,

Kris Taks
