LETTER: Resident frustrated by too-frequent garbage pick-up

My husband and I are a retired couple on a fixed income who have recently moved to Ooteschenia. We have an account with Waste Management for our garbage pick up. They offer WEEKLY service only and will not accommodate our needs of a MONTHLY pick up.

We feel we are being penalized for striving to be green! We re-cycle, burn and compost 75 per cent of our waste and definitely do NOT need weekly service.

I have been attempting to get Castlegar Waste Management branch to assist me in my request for monthly service for over a month with no success. My attempt to inquire with Waste Management’s Head Office resulted in the response (that they are) leaving the final decision to Castlegar.

I do not understand why, when the garbage truck passes my house weekly, regardless, that they can not just stop once a month instead of weekly! I am very upset and disappointed that by practicing a green policy and participating in reducing carbon waste that I cannot get reduced service.

Do you think this is right?

Thanks for your attention.

Regards,

Sandi Vincent
