Metal tin prevents man from being stabbed during knife attack

On Jan. 15, at 6:03 p.m., Trail and Greater District RCMP received a report of a stabbing that just occurred near the Cenotaph in downtown Trail, according to Trail RCMP top cop Mike Wicentowich.

"The victim, a 40-year-old Trail man, was surprisingly uninjured. Investigators credit the small metal tin being carried in the victim’s jacket pocket, which seemingly prevented the suspects knife from penetrating his clothing and reaching his skin.

"The stabbing suspect, a 46-year-old Trail man, fled the scene after the incident. A short time later, a front line Trail RCMP officer located and arrested the suspect inside a local business.

"He remains in police custody at this time and faces a number of potential assault, weapon and property related offences.

"RCMP believe the incident was isolated in nature and the public was not believed to be in any danger."
