Calls to end the infamous 'War on Drugs' don't just come from the funny dressed hairy crowd anymore.

Over the decades a number of Canadian senate committees have called for an end to it and the conservative Fraser Institute has condemned it since 2001.

Last June the United Nations Global Commission on Drugs Policy put it this way: “the criminalization, marginalization and stigmatization of people who use drugs but do no harm to others should be ended”.

To the Editor:

Once again it is spring in the land of Happily Ever After and the mayor's thoughts have turned to travel.

Some time ago in his not so peaceful court he was rebuked for his travel plans to a far and distant kingdom. However, being the King of the land, he said to his court, nay I shall bring this back to court and I shall take even more of you on our journey. Now with the prospect of travel on their minds, who shall be the lucky ones to go on this great adventure?

Dear Rick Hansen:

I hope that during your next 25 years of raising money for spinal cord research (SCR) we will see the end of inhumane, scientifically fallacious spinal cord experiments on animals. It was 25 years ago when Lifeforce, a Vancouver based ecology and animal rights organization, gave you extensive data about the failure of “animal models” but you went on to fund animal experiments. Your Boards have had many vivisectors directing your funding priorities. You raised $20 million for SCR as the “Man in Motion”. Your “dream” for a cure is a nightmare for animals.

Below is our response to recent media stories speaking to the safety and reliability of services to Trail versus Castlegar airports.

The primary focus of the stories was on recently released data showing the Trail service being more reliable than the service in Castlegar.

The higher reliability of the Trail service is due to two factors:

When the movie Avatar made its debut, it caught the hearts of people everywhere as they empathized with the Navi, a people whose world and way of life was threatened by the intrusion of a huge profit-focused corporation. What most fail to realize is the very same thing is happening right now - here in the real world, in our own country – in the West Chilcotin of interior British Columbia.

Your Commission appointed Robyn Gervais as Independent Legal Counsel for Aboriginal interests. We had no role or any say in this matter. She has now withdrawn as Independent Legal Counsel. We find it extremely disturbing that she has had to take this drastic step.

The First Nations Summit applied for standing and was granted Limited Participant status. Despite the fact the government failed completely to provide any financial resources to our and all other First Nations/Aboriginal organizations, we did what we could to participate.

We want the community of Castlegar to know that our priority is to provide quality and safe patient care. On January 6, 2012, the Health Employers Association of BC suddenly announced a unilateral 9%-14% wage rollback for B.C.’s hospital pharmacists.

The wage rollback is certain to aggravate an ongoing staffing shortage in
BC’s hospital pharmacies, putting all British Columbians at risk.
