Tonight’s a big night for anyone looking to see what Castlegar has to offer for community services, kids sports, recreation, learning opportunities and activities, not to mention adult volunteer and recreation opportunities, as dozens of local clubs, organizations, sports teams and more converge on the Castlegar Complex for the Eighth Annual Parade of Programs between 5 and 7:30 p.m.

“It’s one-stop shopping for all ages and interests,” said recreation coordinator Audrey Maxwell-Polovnikoff. “There will be between 35 and 40 groups represented here: Hospice, Scouts, swimming, dance, hockey, cadets, the curling club, the library … the list goes on and on.”

There will also be free popcorn and a free glow skate for kids between 5:15 and 7:15 p.m. – with the real excitement coming when the Rebels and Saints get out there and share the ice!

“Last year, more than 500 people participated,” Maxwell-Polovnikoff said. “We always get a fantastic turn-out.”

She said having all these organizations in one place makes it easy for newcomers and longterm residents alike to find out what’s available in Castlegar, talk to the people involved, and discover what exciting opportunities await them.

“There’s really no website or brochure that shows you all the resources a vibrant area like ours has to offer,” she added. “This is a fun, hassle-free event where you get to see all of your options in one place at one time.”
