What possible cause would bring St. John Ambulance, Castlegar and District Health Watch, the Rebels and Robusters together in one room?

The second annual Parade of Programs at the Castlegar Complex, of course… an event that drew roughly 500 people last year, according to recreation supervisor Verona Walker.

“This year will be even better – we have about 40 different groups, from basketball to seniors’s associations, and everything in between: gymnastics, bowling, the library, Special Olympics …the list goes on,” Walker said. “We’ve got a really great cross-section, for everyone from tots to seniors.”

The event, running from 5 to 8 p.m. on Sept.8, is a terrific one-stop for residents to find out what is available for sports, activities, hobbies, art, education and volunteering in town – and to get free stuff.

“There’s free public skating with the Rebels from 5 to 6:30 p.m.; free swimming from 6 to 7:30 p.m.; free gym access, and we encourage the (presenters) to have prizes and draws and give-aways, too,” she said.

The Castlegar Minor Hockey Association’s hockey swap will be there, and there’s an entire booth devoted to the proposed Complex expansion project, so voters can inform themselves before the referedum.

“We have a draw for free swimming lessons, and the concession will be open, so you can stay for diner, too, if you like,” Walker concluded.
For more information, call the Complex at 250-365-3386.
