Police hand 72-year-old man Roadside Prohibition following single-vehicle accident south of Nelson
A 72-year-old man had his car impounded following a traffic accident south of Nelson on Highway 6 Thursday night.
Nelson Police received a call at 9:18 p.m. of a single vehicle accident that lost control and came to rest off the travel portion of the highway.
When officers arrived they found the vehicle partially in the ditch and close to rolling down an embankment. Officers located the driver inside the vehicle, displaying symptoms of being under the influence of alcohol.
The man provided a breath sample at the scene and was subsequently issued a three-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition (IRP) and his vehicle was impounded for the same amount of time.
Nelson man spends time in jail for biting officer's hand
Wednesday (September 26) Nelson police members were called to the Alpine Suites at 1102 Gordon Road at 7:40 p.m. to reports of an unwanted and intoxicated male causing a disturbance.
The man had been banned from the premises previously for being intoxicated.
Once police found the man, he was escorted out of the premises.
That's when the person became extremely violent toward the officers.
During the exchange the man bit one of the officers as well as made repeated threats to kill both of the officers on scene.
The 31-year-old Nelson resident, who is know to police, was arrested for Assaulting a Police Officer, Uttering Threats, Obstructing a Police Officer and Causing a Disturbance.
The arresting officer was treated at Kootenay Lake Regional Hospital for a minor injury to his hand.
The man is being held in police lockup awaiting court appearance in Nelson Monday (October 1).
Verbal dispute turns into date with NPD officers
Nelson police was called to the Wal-Mart parking lot Tuesday (September 25) to reports of a verbal dispute between a man and a woman.
When officers arrived they found an intoxicated male and a female engaged in verbal dispute.
The man, later identified as a 37-year-old resident of South Slocan, became evasive with police and displayed symptoms of a high level of intoxication. He was subsequently arrested for being Intoxicated in Public, transported to NPD cells and later served with a Violation Ticket upon his release.
