Selkirk Paving Ltd. of Crescent Valley was recently recognized with an award at the recent Deputy Minister’s Contractor of the Year Awards in Nelson.

Selkirk Paving won the Recognition of Excellence in Paving for its Highway 6/31 and local area side roads in the West Kootenay this past summer.

“Selkirk Paving faced considerable challenges with this project due to the spring freshet,” a Ministry spokesperson said.

“One of the key points on this project was the number of smaller communities involved and the relationships that Selkirk Paving developed and maintained,” the Ministry added.

“The standout was the large scope of the project, the traffic control management along the busy tourist route, communication and adaptability with the local communities.”

The Deputy Minister’s Contractor of the Year Awards recognizes excellence in the delivery of transportation infrastructure projects.

Transportation contractors make seismic upgrades to keep our roads safe, build relationships with local communities to minimize traffic flow disruption during construction, respond to emergency situations, and work within short construction windows and sometimes adverse conditions to ensure our roads and bridges are safe and reliable.
