A bizarre incident in Richmond Monday appears to be a case of road rage taken to the absolute extreme, according to RCMP Cpl. Dennis Hwang.

“Shortly after 8:30 p.m. on Aug. 17 … Richmond RCMP responded to reports of shots fired in the area of Westminster Highway and Garden City Road,” Hwang said in a press release issued Tuesday. “Richmond RCMP patrol officers located a 22-year-old Richmond male in a white, late-model Toyota Corolla.

Hwang said the man was uninjured, but at least one bullet hole was found in the car.

“A male suspect was seen fleeing in a dark coloured sedan travelling northbound at a high rate of speed on Garden City Road. Police are asking anyone who might have seen this vehicle to contact us.”

The investigation is on-going.

“At this point, we believe that the shooting was initiated by a driving altercation and it appears to have been taken to the extreme. We are following up on a number of leads and going through surveillance footage. We are working with our law enforcement partners to see if there are connections to other recent shootings. We are extremely thankful that no one was injured,” said Hwang.
