Snowshoe by Moonlight at Red for a Good Cause

Snowshoe by Moonlight at Red for a Good Cause

What better way to enjoy our beautiful Kootenay winter than an evening of guided snowshoeing in bright moonlight with friends and family? The West Kootenay Take a Hike Program invites your participation in our  first annual moonlight snowshoe event featuring excellent food, live music, a silent auction and prizes - all in support of a great cause!

The Moonlight Snowshoe on February 9, 2017, is the West Kootenay Take a Hike Program’s inaugural fundraising event to raise funds and awareness for its alternative education program which operates in School District 20. The event aims to showcase an innovative approach to education that engages students for whom the mainstream school system is not ideal.  Take a Hike students will help to host the evening and share personal accounts from their experiences in this program, which is designed to provide an optimal environment for their success.

Participants will gather at the outdoor patio at Red Mountain Resort. After a delicious hot meal, experienced professional guides from Kootenay Snowshoe Tours will lead registered groups on a moonlight snowshoe trek tailored to their experience level. After the snowshoe, groups return to enjoy live music and a silent auction.  You don’t want to miss out.

Event participants, each of whom raise at least $100, include corporate teams from local businesses and organizations, Take a Hike Community Engagement Committee members, staff and students, and our donors. Our goal this year:  to have 50  participants raise $10,000 under the moonlit backdrop of Red Mountain…a magical and memorable evening for all.

Take a Hike is an innovative education program that engages at risk youth through a unique combination of academics, adventure-based learning, therapy and community involvement.  Now in its 4th year in the West Kootenays, we operate in partnership with School District #20 (Kootenay-Columbia) and are proud to call the Kootenay Columbia Learning Centre in Trail our home base.

The team behind Take a Hike includes teachers, youth and family workers, clinical therapists, and adventure-based learning specialists.  The program fosters the optimal environment for students to experience success and provides students the opportunity to graduate, rebuild relationships and develop life skills.
