On Sept. 17, 2020 at 12:44 p.m., Castlegar RCMP, Castlegar Fire Department and BC Ambulance responded to a motor vehicle collision involving three vehicles on Columbia Avenue near the intersection of 15 Street in Castlegar.

Upon attendance of emergency personnel it was identified three vehicles; a transport truck, a compact car and a mini-van had all been travelling southbound on Columbia Avenue prior to the collision.  BC ambulance attended to the sole occupants of all three vehicles.  The driver of the compact car was transported to hospital for further medical treatment of injuries believed to be mild to moderate in nature, and the other two driver’s declined further medial care.  Vehicle traffic along Columbia Avenue was temporarily diverted through a detour while emergency crews attended to the occupants, investigated the collision and removed debris.

The preliminary investigation identifies the transport truck had stopped for the red light at the intersection when there was a chain event with the compact car rear ending the transport truck, and the min-van rear ending the car.  No charges have been laid at this time and police are continuing their investigation.  Any witnesses not yet interviewed by police are asked to contact the Castlegar Detachment at (250)365-7721.
