We are calling for film submissions from youth!

The Rossland Council for Arts and Culture (RCAC) proudly presents the 10th annual West Kootenay U19 Youth Film Showcase on Thursday, May 4th, 2017, at the Rossland Summit School.

The showcase will be part of the Youth Week Gala, which is organized in partnership with the Rossland Youth Action Network and the Rossland Summit School drama department. Other portions of the evening include a youth variety show and youth awards. This is going to be a popular event, and is a great opportunity for youth to have their films seen by an audience.

We are calling for submissions of films in all categories, maximum 4 minutes in length. Prizes include cash and our coveted Olaus statuettes, and will be awarded for:

·         Judge’s Choice (best overall film)

·         “Digi 60” – best film of 60 seconds or less

·         Best animation

·         Best cinematography

·         Best special effects/make-up

·         Best action/adventure

·         Best directing

The submission deadline is April 24, 2017.

To submit a film, visit http://u19filmfest.com or email rosslandarts@gmail.com. Entrants must be 19 years of age or under.

Resources and past submissions can also be viewed online at http://u19filmfest.com. “Like” West Kootenay U19 Film Fest on Facebook to receive updates and stay in the loop: https://www.facebook.com/West-Kootenay-U19-Film-Fest-323048261798/.

The U19 Showcase follows two successful youth filmmaking workshops held over spring break this March, which included a three-day Smartphone and Action Cam workshop and a five-day Intro to Digital Filmmaking workshop.

The U19 Youth Film Showcase is made possible with the generous support of BC Gaming, the Rossland Youth Action Network, Columbia Power Corporation, and the Nelson and District Credit Union.
