Wilma Turner, this year's Good Samaritan Award Winner

The City’s Good Samaritan Award acknowledges individuals from Castlegar that perform public service acts in the community that often go unnoticed or without thanks or payment. Each year, the City asks residents of the community to nominate people who have performed a kind gesture or random act of kindness that improves the community’s appearance and/or assists others. All nominations are entered into a draw and a winner is randomly selected.
“Council was honoured to select this year’s winner,” says Mayor Bruno Tassone. “Wilma, who is 89-years-old, offers assistance wherever she sees a need – this includes delivering the newspaper, gardening and raking leaves for residents in her building.”
“Oh, this is such a surprise,” says Wilma Turner, the 2019 City of Castlegar Good Samaritan Award Winner. “I really just like to keep busy and moving – my motto is use it or lose it.”
On behalf of the residents of Castlegar, the City would also like to extend a huge thank you to the other good Samaritans who were nominated: Dan Rywaczuk, Deb McIntosh, Doug King, Edie Dunn, Jennifer Fodor, Darlene Kalawsky and Terry & Elizabeth Fleet.
The City of Castlegar is a service centre in the West Kootenay.
