Voting for Ken Koshey is happening right now — March 23 (starting at 9 a.m. ET) and March 24, 2013 (ending at 11:59:59 p.m. ET).

The Greater Trail Minor Hockey League has successfully nominated Trail’s Ken Koshey for the Kraft Hockey Goes On contest.

Koshey now sits in the top 100 and will need the votes of his family, friends, colleagues and the Greater Trail Area to win a spot in the top 25.

Five grand prize winning nominees will win $100,000 for their selected Minor Hockey Association and a total of 20 second prize winning nominees will also win $20,000 to be awarded to their selected Minor Hockey Association.

The hockey season for the Kootenay Wildcats came to an end Saturday in the Central Okanagan.

The B.C. Female Midget AAA Hockey squad lost 5-2 to Okanagan Rockets in semi final playoff action Saturday in Kelowna at the Capital News Centre.

The Rockets won the best-of-three series 2-0 and now advance to the league final next week in Surrey against the Fraser Valley Fusion.

Okanagan won the opening game of the series 2-1 Friday.

The Fusion dispatched the Pacific Ravens of Richmond 2-0 in the best-of-three series.

This selection was easy for the Mallard's Source for Sports Staff and Management after the Selkirk Saints completed its rags to riches season Saturday at the NDCC Arena by capturing the B.C. Intercollegiate Hockey League Championship, in overtime no less.

For those people just crawling out from under a rock the Saints went from a 5-19 last place finish in 2012 to 21-3 in 2013, topping it all off with an impressive 4-0 record in playoffs — the final series a 2-0 best-of-three win against Simon Fraser University.

West Kootenay Cats score draw in final game at provincials against Prince George

Julie Sidoni of Trail scored the lone goal as West Kootenay Wildcats played to a 1-1 tie Wednesday at the B.C. Hockey Bantam Female Championships in Vernon.

The game was the final contest of the Championships after the Cats finished were eliminated from the playoffs with a 0-2-2 record.

West Kootenay lost 5-1 to Tri Cities earlier in the day.

North Shore meets Juan de Fuca and Tri Cites battles Terrace in semi final action Thursday.

The winners play for the provincial title at 8 p.m. Thursday.

Kootenay South is now Kootenay South Storm

Kootenay Youth Soccer clubs are going to get a different look when teams travel into Kootenay South territory after the Trail/Fruitvale/Rossland/Castlegar-based association unveiled its newest logo for the upcoming season.

Kootenay South Rep teams will now be called “Storm” following a contest to select the new name.

“We received about 20 entries and the winning entry, by vote of the rep players, was from Maddie Van Horn, who entered the name ‘’STORM’’,’ said Dave Grantham, in charge of the Select program.

UPDATED: Rebels clinch Kootenay Conference Championship

The Castlegar Rebels are off to the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League Final after making quick work of the Golden Rockets in the Kootenay Conference Championship.

The Rebels completed the sweep Tuesday in Golden by edging the Rockets 3-2.

Castlegar wins the best-of-seven series 4-0.

Castlegar built a 3-0 lead on goals by Kody Disher, Bryan Lubin and Brendan Heinrich.

Blake Roney and Brad Orr scored  in the third but the Rockets could not close any closer despite out shooting Castlegar 26-19.

What could go wrong, went wrong Monday for the West Kootenay Wildcats.

Juan de Fuca, a team the Wildcats beat 2-1 earlier in the year, scored all the goals en route to a 3-0 win Monday at the B.C. Hockey Bantam Female Championships in Vernon.

Castlegar, with 21 shots on goal could not get one past Juan de Fuca goalie Hailey Martens Scoring in the physically played contest.

The Wildcats, win one point in two games, face must wins Tuesday when the team plays Prince George and Tri Cities in final round robin action.
