A letter expressing upset to city council penned by the president of the Castlegar Rebels, Jim Craig, has proved to be the catalyst for a good news story, in which everyone walked away happy.
 
Craig said in a letter included in Monday night’s council meeting that the Rebels rely on their community bingo nights for roughly 15 per cent of their operating budget, and would perhaps have opposed the gaming centre development were it not for promises made at the time.

Cole Buckley’s stay with the Grand Forks Border Bruins lasted whopping seven games after the Murdoch Division cellar dwellers traded the Penticton native to the Osoyoos Coyotes earlier this week in a futures deal.

Buckley, 19, was dealt to the defending Kootenay International Junior Hockey League champs Monday in a deal that sees Grand Forks receive future considerations from the Desert Dogs.

In seven games with the Bruins Buckley saw more rubber than Goodyear Tire finishing his stint in the Boundary City with an 8.27 goals against average.

Two tournaments, two silver medals for Kaslo/Nelson Midget Reps

For the second tournament in a week the Kaslo/Nelson Midget Reps settled for second place.

South Okanagan scored in each period en route to a 3-1 victory over Kaslo/Nelson in the final of the Kelowna Minor Hockey Midget Rep Tournament Sunday in the Central Okanagan City.

Kaslo/Nelson lost to Tri-Cities in the final of the Westbank tournament earlier this month.

Brett Anderson’s second period marker snapped a 1-1 tie powering South Okanagan to the win.

Matt MacDonald scored the only goal for Kaslo/Nelson.

Despite being plagued with Reiter's Syndrome Steve Archdekin of Beasley is back on the competitive trail, running in the Vegas Half Marathon to fulfill a last wish of a friend.

Beasley resident Steve Archdekin has never met a hurdle he couldn’t overcome.

In September of 1993 Archdekin came down with what he thought was a case of the common cold.

Little did the Brampton, Ont., native know was this common cold turned into a full blown case of rare form of arthritis called, Reiter's Syndrome.

The easy way to put it is Archdekin has two different types of arthritis — both of the crippling variety.

Dam Inn receiver Mike Lucas caught to touchdown passes, the second snapping a 12-12 tie, to power the Mates to a hard-fought 19-12 victory over Castlegar Vikings in the final of the West Kootenay Men’s Flag Football League Sunday in the snow at the Mount Sentinel Field.

The Dam Inn win, the first in the championship in years, snapped a four-year domination by the Vikings, who has held the title since 2007.

The second major score by Lucas came midway through the fourth quarter after Castlegar had tied the game at 12-12.

Guess what? The B.C. Lions are in the 99th annual Grey Cup against Winnipeg

 The rags to riches story continues for the B.C. Lions.

Travis Lulay, and a suffocating B.C. defence, sparked the Lions to a 40-23 rout of the Edmonton Eskimos in the CFL Western Final Sunday before 41,313 fans at B.C Place in Vancouver.

The win advances the Lions to the 99th Grey Cup next Sunday in, once again, Vancouver at B.C Place against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

The Bombers dumped the Hamilton Tiger Cats 19-3 in the Eastern Final in Winter Peg.
