This year’s Silver City Nite, held Dec. 5, was by all accounts a spectacular success. The event continues to grow each year, and the city plans to continue the annual tradition well into the future, according to Andrea Jolly, City of Trail communication and events coordinator

Students in the Selkirk College Contemporary Music & Technology Program are only a couple rehearsals away from the annual Christmas Break Show that takes place at Nelson’s Spiritbar on December 18. Burgeoning Selkirk College talent will shine in an eclectic night of entertainment when Contemporary Music & Technology Program students hit the stage at Nelson’s Spiritbar on December 18.

The traditional Christmas Break Show features student-based bands that have been toiling for several weeks in preparation for a night that will throw a spotlight on talent and hard work.

With only a few weeks left in the Fall Semester, students are ready to go out in style with an unforgettable night of diverse, rich and funky sounds.

That’s right! Only two more sleeps until the city’s premiere holiday hoopla Friday night, an event designed to delight all ages and kick off the holiday season in Castlegar.

It all starts at 5:30 p.m. with the Rec Rockers (dancers between the ages of three and five) taking the stage to wow the crowds and warm them up for the really big show, the Parade of Lights, which starts at 6 p.m.

Recreation master plan creates confusion

Some confusion is plaguing residents after the Castlegar and District Recreation Commission unveiled a draft master plan at two open houses on Monday.

The plan (which can be viewed in its entirety online by clicking here ) is a weighty document of 212 pages, and includes the majority of the options on the Castlegar wish-list for Complex expansion, which would come at a combined price tag of $32,796,400.

REC Dept. over the Holidays

During the week of December 21st to 27th, the REC Dept. will be open on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, from 9:00-4:00pm, December 21-23.  The Office will be closed on Thursday, December 24th.  During the second week of the Holidays, the Dept. will be open Monday, December 28th to Thursday, December 31st.  Please give us a call to inquire about renting ice at the Arena, registering for a program or to find out what’s happening around town.

A former Castlegar resident has found a fun and enviro-friendly fashion to add some pizazz to her grey winter landscape.

Carina Pilla-Falkman lived in Castlegar for 37 years before moving to her current locale, about 15 minutes up the mountain from Salmon Arm (“Basically, in the middle of nowhere,” she said) – but lots of her Castlegar friends saw her Facebook post about her wonderful winter creation.

You’re nearing your last chance to provide input as the Castlegar and District Recreation Commission  (CDRC) prepares to unveil its Draft Recreation Master Plan, covering everything from indoor and outdoor facility priorities, tovfinancing options and service delivery.

Jim Crockett, manager of recreation for the CDRC, says much has gone into developing the master plan, and residents have only a matter of weeks now to weigh in on the result.
