To the residents of the Kootenay Boundary;

There has been significant attention around the changes Interior Health is making to the Operating Room at Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital. These changes are going forward next month and will ensure Interior Health is equitably distributing the resources available in the Kootenay Boundary for the range of core services provided.

We all witnessed how our Olympic athletes inspired and unified our nation. Whether they won or not, their stories touched our hearts and we applauded their efforts. We are writing in response to Interior Health’s proposed cuts to our Hospital. Instead of going for gold in our Health Care system it seems we allow the towel to be thrown in, apparently bowing to the almighty Dollar.

People have been asking “Why the Boundary Education Alliance?” They are wondering what the need is for this group to form and exist. To help answer this question we want to invite you to look through the window of what we observed in one specific example.

Re: Reduction in surgical services at KBRH

Several times, my wife and I have used the surgical services at Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital (KBRH), and, as we get older, we may need them again.

Therefore, the recently announced 25-per-cent reduction in KBRH operating room time, in order to save Interior Health money, is not acceptable. It follows other reductions over the past eight years, including the termination of most surgery in Nelson and all surgery in Castlegar.

Dear Boundary Citizens,

There has been many many issues and decisions made over the last 15-20 years that have affect our children. Years before that, one room schools with dedicated teachers, for example Margret Harpur and Agnes White, taught children up in Bridesville and Rock Creek ( Kettle Valley.)

Who am I to decide what issue is the most important one of the week that requires top priority and the most funding allocated to it when thousands of people have volunteered their time for years to do what they felt was and is in the best interests of the children.

Regarding: Whooping Cough Outbreak and Pertussis Vaccine for Children

As a public health specialist physician who is the Medical Health Officer for the Kootenay-Boundary area (including Castlegar), it is my responsibility to ensure all residents of the region get the best health information possible on which to base their decisions for themselves and their families, and do everything possible to improve the overall health of the population I serve.

It is with great regret that the department of surgery must submit this letter. We strongly believe that the public has a right to know what is happening to their surgical services at Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital, Trail. We are a group of highly skilled, specialist surgeons and anaesthetists who have been providing service to the population of the West Kootenay Boundary region and beyond for many years. It is unacceptable that Interior Health now wishes to deny you access to this service by effectively closing 1 / 4 of your operating rooms at KBRH Trail.

Two trucks have been stolen from Trowelex a collective five times (one stolen three times, the other, twice now), including a theft discovered just three days ago, and the RCMP's new Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) is on the job.

Trowelex owner Nick Chernoff said the most recent theft, discovered Monday, is just one of a string of incredibly frustrating crimes, in which trucks and trailers have been stolen from Trowelex, then used to transport stolen equipment from other, often local, businesses.
