Domestic assaults, hit-and-run, fatality: Packed month for Slocan and Nakusp RCMP

The following is a press release issued by RCMP Const. Mark Macaulay covering files occurring between July 19 and Aug. 21:

 

The Nakusp and Slocan Lake RCMP had a busy last month attending to over 230 calls for service and attending to 18 motor vehicle collisions.

Nakusp RCMP

 

File 2013-3542 – Impaired Motor Vehicle Collision

 

On July 20, 2013 at approximately 3:17 am, the Nakusp RCMP attended a single vehicle roll over on Highway 6, Nakusp. A female was identified as the driver and the only occupant in the vehicle. An investigation into the crash led to an impaired driving investigation. The driver was issued Notice of Driving Prohibition for 90 days, pursuant to Section 215.41 of the BC Motor Vehicle Act, and a 30 day vehicle Impoundment, pursuant to Section 215.46 of the Motor Vehicle Act.

 

File 2013-3549 – Hit and Run Collision

 

On July 20, 2013 the Nakusp RCMP responded to a hit and run collision that occurred at a property located on Columbia Crescent, Nakusp. A vehicle had exited Columbia Crescent Road, drove onto the complainant’s front lawn and hit his parked vehicle. A suspect vehicle was later located and evidence gathered at the scene and from the suspect vehicle led police to the driver. The driver admitted to being responsible and was charged under the Motor Vehicle Act.

 

File 2013-3676 – Domestic Assault

 

On July 25, 2013 at 10:30 pm, the Nakusp RCMP responded to a report of a domestic assault that took place in Nakusp. Complainant stated he was hit in the face with a water bottle by his common law spouse while camping. Minor injuries to complainant’s nose. Police are recommending a charge of Assault against the female who is scheduled to appear in the Nakusp Provincial Courthouse on August 22, 2013.

 

File 2013-3730 – Impaired Driver

 

On July 27, 2013 at approximately 10:40 pm the Nakusp RCMP was advised by a person wishing to remain anonymous that an intoxicated male was leaving the Leland Hotel in a red station wagon. The Nakusp RCMP attended and observed the described vehicle pulling into a parking stall in front of the Leland Hotel. The driver and lone occupant of the vehicle was identified and showed signs of impairment. The Officer formed grounds to request a sample of breath from the driver. The driver failed the test, was issued a 90 day Immediate Roadside Prohibition, and his vehicle was impounded for 30 days.

 

File 2013-3798 – Overdue Tuber

 

On July 30, 2013 at 5:20 pm, the Nakusp RCMP received a report of a male missing on Arrow Lakes. The male was last seen near the ‘Bahama’s’ in Arrow Lakes on a White and Black circular tube. The Nakusp RCMP and Search and Rescue attended and proceeded with search. The Nakusp RCMP located the male a short time later on Highway 6 near MacDonald Creek. The male stated he tubed across the lake and he didn’t know exactly where he was, so he walked up toward the highway to get help.

 

File 2013-3802 – Domestic Assault

 

On July 30, 2013 at 7:50 pm, the Nakusp RCMP received a report that a male and female were observed screaming at each other in front of an address in Edgewood. The Nakusp RCMP attended and were greeted at the front door of the residence by a male who had matted blood on the top of his head from a small cut. The male disclosed that his wife had assaulted him with a steel coffee cup. The male and female did not cooperate with police and it appears alcohol was a contributing factor. A female was arrested at scene and police are recommending a charge of Assault against the female who is scheduled to appear in the Nakusp Provincial Courthouse on August 22, 2013.

 

 

File 2013-3881 – Overdue Boaters

 

On August 3, 2013 at 2:34 am, the Nakusp RCMP received a report of overdue boaters at Trout Lake. The Nakusp RCMP attended with Nakusp Search and Rescue and determined Trout Lake locals attended as well and located the boat along with occupants on a nearby beach. The owner of the boat stated the boat broke down so they camped on a beach while waiting for help.

 

 

File 2013-3910 – Domestic Assault

 

On August 3, 2013 at 10:50 pm, the Nakusp RCMP received a report of a domestic assault at an address in Nakusp. A male was arrested at the scene and police are recommending a charge of Assault against the male, who is scheduled to appear in the Nakusp Provincial Courthouse on August 22, 2013.

 

 

Slocan Lake RCMP

 

File 2013-3571 – Domestic Assault

 

On 2013-07-21 at 6:25 pm a 911 call was received advising a female had been assaulted by her husband at the boat launch in Slocan. With the assistance from the public the RCMP located and arrested the male for assault. The male is scheduled to appear in the Nakusp Provincial Courthouse on August 22, 2013.

 

 

File 2013-4414 – Fatal Pedestrian Motor Vehicle Collision

 

On August 14, 2013 at approximately 11:10 pm, Provincial ambulance called police to report a collision on Highway 6 , Winlaw, BC, where a pedestrian had been struck by a commercial transport operated for DCT Chambers Ltd. West Kootenay Traffic Services has taken over the investigation.
