UPDATE: BC Coroner called in after body found near Nakusp
BC Coroners Office has been called in after the body of a male was found near Nakusp Sunday.
The body is believed to be a missing man from Burnaby reported missing (Thursday) September 19 while picking mushrooms in the Fostal area, approximately 25 kilometers south of Nakusp after crossing the Arrow Park Ferry.
However, no confirmation has been made at this time by BC Coroners Office.
Saturday (October 5), RCMP dog handler searching the Fostall area located a hat believed to belong to missing mushroom picker.
Sunday (October 6) Nakusp Search and Rescue attended, and with the assistance of the RCMP Police Service Dogs, located a male body in the bush.
The man was located approximately three kilometres along Spur P and a further 40 meters into the bush.
Spur P is a side road dissecting, Branch 1 Road, where hunters originally reported finding a van stuck in the mud.
There were no obvious signs of trauma to the body and foul play is not suspected.
A positive identification has not been completed and the file is being turned over to the BC Coroners Office.
SAR teams consider options in search for missing Burnaby mushroom picker
The news is not good for the family of a missing Burnaby man lost while picking mushrooms near Nakusp.
RCMP Sgt. Darryl Little told The Nelson Daily Monday SAR (Search and Rescue) crews searched the area around where of 71year-old Kyung Chun is believed to last seen.
“Search suspended at this time will be re-examining options in the next few days,” Sgt. Little said.
Chun was reported missing (Thursday) September 19 while picking mushrooms in the Fostal area, approximately 25 kilometers south of Nakusp after crossing the Arrow Park Ferry.
Sgt. Little said the initial report was the male had been left with the van when Chun disappeared.
However, after the interview was conducted, additional details were obtained.
SAR teams have been searching the area since late last week.
Anyone who may have seen Chun is asked to contact their local RCMP office.
Search suspended Tuesday for missing Burnaby man; crews expected to be back on ground Wednesday
RCMP confirm a search for a missing Burnaby man lost in the Nakusp area has been suspended for Tuesday, but will resume Wednesday (September 24).
RCMP Sgt. Darryl Little said in a media release all parties involved including his family, the RCMP, search and rescue members are concerned for the well being of 71year-old Kyung Chun as temperatures have been dropping overnight and the weather has been inclement.
“Since the original complaint was received Search and Rescue members from various locations within the West Kootenay area have conducted several ground and water searches without success,” Sgt. Little said.
“The search and rescue members have also conducted a grid search of the area immediately surrounding the van, again without finding any trace of Mr. Chun.

“The male describes arriving at the site on Friday September 13th and gathering mushrooms,” Sgt Little explained.
“After dinner the following evening, September 14th, Mr. Chun decided to drive the load of mushrooms back to the coast, leaving the male in camp.
“The other male remained at the site with other mushroom pickers and when Mr. Chun failed to return, made his way to Revelstoke and returned to Vancouver. It appears Mr. Chun may have gotten lost on the back roads or taken a wrong turn eventually getting his vehicle stuck.”

UPDATE: Search teams continue to look for missing Burnaby man
RCMP confirms the search is continuing for a missing Burnaby man in the Nakusp region.
RCMP Sgt. Darryl Little said search teams are combing the area around Nakusp looking for 71-year-old Kyung Chun of Burnaby.
“SAR (Seach and Rescue) is out again today to see if they can locate him,” Sgt. Little said Monday.
Chun was believed to have gone missing while picking mushrooms in the Fostal area, approximately 25 kilometers south of Nakusp after crossing the Arrow Park Ferry.
The van he was travelling in got stuck and had not moved for approximately five days.
Teams have been searching the area since late last week.
Anyone who may have seen Chun is asked to contacted their local RCMP office.
Burnaby man believed to be picking mushrooms missing near Nakusp
The RCMP is seeking the public’s assistance in locating a Burnaby man who has gone missing near Nakusp.
RCMP was notified Thursday by campers in the Fostal area of a van that appeared to be stuck and had not moved for approximately five days.
Fostal is located approximately 25 kilometers south of Nakusp after crossing the Arrow Park Ferry.
The van was located a further one hour drive into the bush area where a base camp had been established.
Police determined the van belonged to 71-year-old Kyung Chun of Burnaby.
“His family advised Chun had left with another male, presumably to go mushroom picking,” said RCMP Sgt. Darryl Little in a media release.
“Unfortunately, no destination was provided to his family. The other male has been in contact with the family stating Chun had left the van to pick mushrooms and not returned.”
Little said the man stayed for an additional length of time then managed to make it to the highway where he hitch-hiked to Revelstoke.
Police said unfortunately, the man did not report Chun was missing to the police at the time and has made his way back to the lower mainland.
Police will be speaking to this individual to gather additional information.
Little said search and rescue conducted a cursory search on Thursday and will be conducting a more thorough search beginning Friday morning.
Chun does suffer from some health concerns and requires medication.
Police are concerned for his health as the result of being outside for a week.
