An incident in Fruitvale Friday prompted RCMP to warn residents against encouraging others to punch them.

“On Friday, June 10, at 2:37 p.m., a frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officer received a complaint from a 56-year-old Castlegar man that his friend punched him in the head after he told his friend to do so, in downtown Fruitvale,” said Trail RCMP top cop Sgt. Mike Wicentowich. “The Castlegar man and his friend allegedly got in a verbal argument prior to the punch.

“During the argument, his friend told the Castlegar man that he should punch the Castlegar man in the head. The Castlegar man told his friend to go ahead, and his friend obliged,” Wicentowich said.

The Castlegar man was not injured by the punch, and the RCMP officer provided guidance 56-year-old Castlegar man to help avoid such incidents in the future.

“Trail RCMP recommends never to consent to being punched in the head during an argument, even if one thinks it may be helpful to one’s case in some way,” said Wicentowich.
