Effective at noon (Pacific time) on Wednesday, June 30, 2021, campfires, Category 2 and Category 3 open fires will be prohibited throughout the province of British Columbia.

This prohibition will remain in effect until noon on Oct. 15, 2021, or until the order is rescinded.

Today the RCMP announced the appointment of Assistant Commissioner Dwayne McDonald who will be the next Commanding Officer of the RCMP in British Columbia. A/Commr. BC Wildfire Service crews in the Southeast Fire Centre were busy Wednesday responding to a wildfire north of Balfour.

BC Wildfire Service said on Twitter that the Knob fire is burning four kilometers north of Balfour.

“The fire is about 0.5 (hectare) and is lightning caused,” BC Wildfire Service said.
