Two swimmers were rescued from the swift waters of the Goat River Wednesday in Creston.

Creston RCMP said on Wednesday, June 7, 2023, officers assisted in a swift water rescue on the Goat River in Creston.

RCMP said the two people were swimming in the river and got swept away in the high, swift water into rapids.

Lola Brouillette and Riel Martinez, both 17, passed through the rigorous challenges to land spots on the national team, being selected from more than 60 athletes from all over the country.

The monthly weather bulletin from the Southeast Fire Centre said the average value of all the highs and lows for May was more than four degrees above normal, setting a new record mean monthly temperature of 17.7 degrees.

“The month started off warm under a prevailing southerly flow aloft,” the weather bulletin said.

Salmo RCMP is asking for assistance from the public regarding a serious assault that occurred last fall near Ymir.

RCMP said that on October 11, 2022, officers responded to an assault that happened on the rails to trails path off of Highway 6 near Ymir.

On June 4, at 12:05 p.m., the Castlegar RCMP received a report of a grass fire by the bike park in Millennium Park in Castlegar, according to Castlegar Fire Chief Sam Lattanzio.

He said the fire was extinguished by the Castlegar Fire Department before it could reach any woods or structures, leaving a large patch of burnt grass.
