Seven people were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries Monday after a head-on collision on Highway 22 near Fairview.

Police say a vehicle travelling southbound on the highway crossed the centre line and struck an on-coming northbound truck head-on.
“A third vehicle, also northbound behind the truck, was unable to avoid the collision and clipped one of the vehicles and left the road, striking a pole,” said Castlegar RCMP Sgt. Laurel Mathew. “Major damage was sustained to all the vehicles and the highway had to be shut down for (about) one hour.”
Mathew said seven people were taken by ambulance to the hospital, but were believed to have sustained life-threatening injuries.
“It is not believed, at this time, that alcohol or speed were a factor,” she added.
