On Sunday, April 2, at 12:45 p.m., frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officers responded to an incident where a 39-year-old Trail man was allegedly assaulted with a cane by a 28-year-old Trail man in the 1400 block of Bay Avenue in Trail, according to RCMP Sgt. Mike Wicentowich. The victim believed (he was) hit five to six times before grabbing a nearby pole and striking back at the suspect. The two men knew each other and the public was not in danger at anytime. Neither man suffered serious injuries.”

Wicentowich said officers arrested the 28-year-old Trail man for Assault with a Weapon contrary to Section 267 of the Criminal Code. An officer released the suspect on conditions including having no contact with the victim.

The 28-year-old Trail man will make his first appearance on May 25, 2023, in Provincial Court, in Rossland.

Trail RCMP is responding to incidents involving the downtown vulnerable population. There continues to be a great need to provide safe shelter and spaces to help prevent incidents, Wicentowich  said.
