Campfires will again be allowed within the City of Castlegar effective noon on Friday Aug. 27, 2021.

This is in conjunction with the Southeast Fire Centre announcing they are lifting campfire bans in the Arrow Lakes fire zone.

As always, Category 2 and Category 3 open fires remain prohibited within the city boundaries. In addition, the following activities will continue to be prohibited within the city until further notice: sky lanterns, fireworks, burn barrels or burn cages, binary exploding targets, tiki and similar kinds of torches.

“The combination of a return to more seasonal weather conditions with rainfall and cooler temperatures have decreased wildfire danger ratings within the city,” says Fire Chief, Sam Lattanzio
