City of Castlegar residents can register today at www.watersense.cato receive a FREE low-flow showerhead kit, one per household, first 850. Program is a partnership between FortisBC PowerSense, Terasen Gas, City of Castlegar and Climate Sense.

Each showerhead package includes one 1.5 GPM low-flow showerhead, Teflon tape and one package of toilet leak detection tablets.

This new water-saving pilot program will deliver 850 packages on a first-come, first-served basis beginning September 15, 2010 through October 31, 2010 or while supplies last. Qualifying households will be provided with a coupon that can be redeemed at Castlegar City Hall where they can pick up their showerhead package.

Showers can be the single largest contributor to hot water use in the home. Replacing an existing conventional showerhead with 1.5 GPM low-flow showerhead can save an average family of three over 26,000 litres of hot water in a year. Participating households should notice a decrease on their utility costs.

1,000 low-flow showerheads can save over 26 million litres of hot water. These annual energy savings could power as many as 30 homes for a year.
