Castlegar and District Community Services Society is encouraging Castlegar area residents to bundle up and raise cold hard cash for the Coldest Night of the Year Walk-a-Thon on Feb. 22.

This is a fun, family-friendly winter fundraising walk for Castlegar’s vulnerable, hurting, hungry and homeless youth and others.  In over 133 cities across Canada thousands of participants will be taking part in the walk on this day. By walking together in the chill of the night, participants will better understand the experience of being on the streets without shelter during a cold Canadian winter. The funds raised will allow Community Services to provide much needed support to those in need. The fundraising goal this year is $30,000

The Castlegar walk will begin at the United Church on Merry Creek Road where walkers will register, turn in the results of their fundraising efforts, then walk down the Columbia Avenue sidewalk to Speedy Glass, with rest stops along the way, to have a warm drink and then return to have a celebration meal. Walkers will receive a Coldest Night toque and there will be prizes for best costumes and most funds raised.  Community Services thanks their new and returning sponsors for their support and funds donated.

To obtain information regarding how to captain or join a team, register as a volunteer plus other questions go to www.cnoy.org/home – and later check www.cnoy.org/castlegar .
