Columbia River water levels could increase by as much as two feet this Friday and Saturday due to changes to the discharge rates from Arrow Lakes Reservoir. The changes will be as follows:

·         At 7 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 10, the discharge rate will increase from approximately 1,388 cubic metres per second (49,000 cubic feet per second) to about 1,501 cubic metres per second (53,000 cubic feet per second).

·         At 7 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 11, the discharge rate will increase from approximately 1,501 cubic metres per second (53,000 cubic feet per second) to about 1,642 cubic metres per second (58,000 cubic feet per second).

·         At 8 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 11, the discharge rate will increase from approximately 1,642 cubic metres per second (58,000 cubic feet per second) to about 1,784 cubic metres per second (63,000 cubic feet per second).

These changes are due to Columbia River Treaty coordination agreements.

When combined with the outflows from the Kootenay River, Columbia River levels at Birchbank are expected to see an increase in water levels of about 0.61 metres (2 feet) over two days from the current levels.
