River levels are set to rise up to almost four feet this Friday and Saturday, according to a release by BC Hydro. The level changes will be as follows:

·         At 7 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 1, the discharge rate will increase from approximately 453 cubic metres per second (16,000 cubic feet per second) to about 595 cubic metres per second (21,000 cubic feet per second).

·         At 7 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 2, the discharge rate will increase from approximately 595 cubic metres per second (21,000 cubic feet per second) to about 736 cubic metres per second (26,000 cubic feet per second).

·         At 8 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 2, the discharge rate will increase from approximately 736 cubic metres per second (26,000 cubic feet per second) to about 878 cubic metres per second (31,000 cubic feet per second).

·         At 9 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 2, the discharge rate will increase from approximately 878 cubic metres per second (31,000 cubic feet per second) to about 991 cubic metres per second (35,000 cubic feet per second).

These changes are due to Columbia River Treaty coordination agreements. When combined with the outflows from the Kootenay River, Columbia River levels at Birchbank are expected to see an increase in water levels of about 1.2 metres (3.8 feet) over two days from the current levels.  Please make safety your top priority when planning activities near the Columbia River.
