A Trail family has lost their pet to a cougar attack, according to Trail rop cop RCMP Sgt. Mike Wicentowich.

“On Jan. 10, 2021 at 5:45 p.m., Trail and Greater District RCMP and the BC Conservation Officer Service responded to a complaint of a young cougar who had attacked and killed a dog in backyard of a residence in the 600-block of Isabella Crescent in Trail,” Wicentowich said. “The front line RCMP officer and BC Conservation Service located the cougar and dispatched it without further incident.

“A joint investigation discovered the cougar’s feeding den in a small section of forest near the attack. Investigators believed that the young cougar may have been separated from his mother which resulted him to begin hunting available prey within the city limits. This is unusual behavior for cougars who are generally shy and secluded animals.

{Please report any wildlife conflict to the BC Conservation Officer Service at 1-877-952-RAPP (7277) or to the Trail and Greater District Detachment RCMP at 250-364-2566.”
