Drivers note: Work to begin on Paulson Bridge

The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure has announced that deck resurfacing and other rehabilitation work will begin next week on the Paulson Bridge, providing a safer and more reliable structure and approaches for people travelling along Highway 3.
“Keeping people and goods moving safely and efficiently in all corners of our province is our top priority,” said Claire Trevena, Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure. “Paulson Bridge is more than 55 years old. Significantly rehabilitating the bridge and providing other key safety upgrades will ensure it remains reliable for many years to come.”
The Paulson Bridge crosses over McRae Creek and the Kettle Valley Rail Trail on the Crowsnest Highway, approximately 50 kilometres west of Castlegar. The bridge was originally built in 1962. Its arch spans a length of 258 metres (846 feet) and a drop of 84 metres (275 feet) to the valley floor.
Along with deck resurfacing, this rehabilitation project will include:
* replacement of deck joints and bridge deck overhangs;
* installation of new concrete roadside barriers;
* improvements to roadway drainage; and
* resurfacing of bridge approaches.
During this $6-million rehabilitation project, single-lane alternating traffic will be in place 24 hours a day and people should be prepared for delays of up to 10 minutes. Work is expected to be completed in fall 2019.
